Writing red...

I am determined to have boys with nice handwriting. Therefore I do not push them to do much handwriting yet, because their small motor skills are not as developed as a girls the same age. The other day Micah was working on his school book and he was to trace the word "red". It was really neat to watch him work hard writing that word. I get so much satisfaction watching them accomplish something new.

More School stuff....
Just in case some of you missed the awesome lunar eclipse.... I took pictures...Kevin thought that I was crazy going outside to take pictures, but what a great opportunity for school! Earlier that night I had brought Micah outside with his telescope so he could look at the moon. It was not yet in the shadow if the earth so it what bright. So when he saw the pictures the next morning he asked why the moon looked different. Here comes school.....I explained to him what had happened. We had a lesson on the Lunar Eclipse... all while we were still in our PJ's (at 7am), isn't homeschooling great!

Short and Sweet

I have been on a mission for short hair since last October. I finally accomplished that mission about 4 weeks ago when my very good friend Jen cut it for me. Little did Jen know what she was getting into when she offered to cut my hair.

Since Jen and I both agree that it is easier to cut hair off than to glue it back on, we decided to do it in stages and see what I liked. We had at first, a picture we were working from but by the time I went back the third time (yes, I said 3 times) we were working off about 6 different pictures of haircuts that I liked. Every time I went back it was because I loved the cut, but I wanted it shorter. Every time Jen would say OK, and she would take a few more inches off my hair. Third time is the charm, right?? Well, I say Yes! I went from hair that would take me 30 min to dry with the blow dryer and then another 30 to style it (at least 1 hr total)...to...5 min to dry and 5 min to style and if I want to go a little more funky, then it might take me 10 min to style.

The whole time Jen was a trooper, she would put a full day in with 4 kids (which she homeschools) and then welcome me into her home after the kids went to bed. She would cut my hair as we discussed the days issues, solved problems, and shared wisdom. To me it was so much more than just a haircut, we were bonding without the noise and interference of kids. It was, for me, a great escape, but I didn't have the job of cleaning up all my hair!

Thanks Jen!

(the back of my hair is kind of messy/spikey and so much fun)!

I'm being picked on..

I am not sure why, but I have had 3 comments left by people who I do not know. They were all in response to Jon's comment and they all said "click here". My brother Paul said NEVER click anything that says "click here" unless you know the source. As a result of this, I have changed some security stuff. I am not sure if you will be able to leave comments now because I changed the comment security to "team members only" and to be honest I have no idea what that means. I guess I am just going to give it a try and see if I stop getting stalked. Maybe after awhile I will change back my settings, but for right now I don't want to get picked on by people who have nothing better to do with their time than to try and hack into other peoples computers.

Thanks and I will be posting soon, I have been tied up with a little girl who has the stomach flu...I am ready for spring!! I am posting a picture of a happy time last June, when Aunt Laurie and I took the kids to Chicago to visit Uncle Timmy and Aunt Melissa.

If any of you know how to take comments off, please let me know. I am trying to figure it out but have not been successful yet.

Is There Something Wrong With This???

The other day Jilli was showing her "girly" side, which rarely comes out. She was carrying around her "baby" in a "blanket". Taking care of it, loving it, giving it water to drink, talking to it, it was so cute. I was running to get my camara to photograph this rare moment when Tyler called her to come play with him.

I was really disappointed that I didn't "get the shot" because it was the kind of shot you store away for that special day. The day that you get the call that you are a grandparent and to come see your new grandbaby. This would be the picture that I would frame and bring to the hospital with me. I must admit, that since I didn't get the shot the other day, I have been staking her with my camera. Laying out the "baby" and "blanket" in hopes that she picks them up and starts mothering them, but to no avail. She would rather play super heros with her brothers. With capes flowing down their backs, running around saving people. Or their new one...playing police man (like Uncle Timmy) and shooting all the bad guys.

So here is the, "Is there something wrong with this" part.....

The "baby".....a hot wheels car.

The "blanket".....a small washcloth, the perfect size for the "baby".

Birthday Boy...Micah

It is my personal opinion that even though Micah's Birthday Party was rescheduled, he still made out like a King.

Thursday afternoon Micah was picked up for lunch with Nana (my Mom). They dined at Uno Chicago Grill, his choice, then picked up flowers for Aunt Laurie and brought them to her at work. He then spent the afternoon being center stage at Nana's house.

Friday he was picked up for a lunch outing with Ama (Kevin's Mom). His choice this time was Bennigans, what ever happened to McDonalds or Wendy's??? He then requested to go back to Ama's house to see Poppop (recovering from surgery). Abbie (his cousin) showed up and he ended up getting to play with her all afternoon. He was home for about 1hr and then was wisked away for a fun evening with Aunt Laurie at Craig's Cruisers.

All I have to say is.....my children have a lot of love poured on them. What more could a kid ask for??

This picture is of Micah during one of his many "Happy Birthday Calls".

Sharing Bugs

Two reasons why I haven't been posting.
1. I uploaded 638 pictures from 2007 for a book I am working on....that took about 18hrs of my computer stretched over 2 days.

2. We came down with the flu. Not the stomach flu, but the whole body aches and fever, coughing, sleepless nights... Thankfully I haven't gotten it as bad as Kevin. He has been home all week, unable do ANYTHING but sleep and cough. His fever was reaching 103 degrees yesterday, so lastnight we took some extra time praying over him and this morning his fever was gone. He is still feeling pretty bad, but atleast he is not dealing with the fever. Our neighbor who is a Doctor said that this is pretty much par for the course. Expect to be off work for a week, and then when you start to feel better watch out, because you then can come down with a secondary infection.

With all the bugs flying around the house we decided to cancel Micah's Birthday Party tomorrow night. Which upset him. He was really looking forward to it. Thankfully Micah is a very understanding child and took it all in stride and after crying for a minute said "OK Mommy, I understand we can have it next week."

Hopefully life back at the Peter's house will be getting back to normal soon and I can post more fun and interesting things.

Blessings!

A Samuel Moment

It's 4am and Jillian is awake. I get her settled back down and go back to bed. I am laying there wide awake trying to go back to sleep. Then I heard that "Still Small Voice"... I am sorry to say that Samuel, a child, was more willing to get out of bed to listen to his master than I was.

"Lyn, I want you to get up, go downstairs and spend some time with me." "Uh, Lord, it's 4am and I really NEED to sleep." "Lyn, you need to spend time in My Word and talking to me." "God, do you know what temp my husband turns our heat down too at night??? It is FREEZING downstairs and my bed is SO warm... OK, if I need to pray then I will pray from my warm bed." So I started praying....not quite sure what I was supposed to be praying about (maybe I would have known had I gotten up), I started at the inner circle and then moved my way out. I prayed for my marriage, my children, an opportunity that we are looking into, my Dad, Kevin's Dad and his next surgery (scheduled for Thursday), my brother's and sister, Kevin's brother and sister's, my Aunt (she was just dx with breast cancer), my wonderful church, and anything else that I could think of. The last time I looked at the clock it was almost 5am. Again, I thought that I needed to get to sleep because before I would know it, it would be time for me to get up. So I snuggled down and made a conscience decision to go to sleep, but before I went to sleep I heard..."Lyn, you missed out on a very special time with me, I am glad you prayed, but you did it on your terms, not mine. My Grace covers you..." That was the last thing I heard before my husband woke me up to find out if he had clean jeans for work.

As I am reflecting on my experience, it makes me sad that I know I missed out on a very intimate time with God. I have been quieting myself more, so that I can hear His voice. I have been waiting, expecting to hear from Him and when I do, I tell Him that it too early, I need sleep, and it's too cold. I am so thankful that God's Grace does cover all my mistakes.

During a very tough time in my life, I was in a time of prayer with a very special person. As we were praying, God sent me a picture of a beautiful blue butterfly. It was pitch black and all I saw was this delicate butterfly flying around. God spoke to me and said, "Lyn, I am making you new, see this beautiful butterfly, that's you." Since that day, butterflies have taken on a very special meaning to me. You see, butterflies, start off as ugly catapillers. They kind of give me the willies when I see them climbing around. Then they go through this transformation (in a cocoon), that's the part that God takes ahold of them. Then they come out as this beautiful butterfly. God can take anything and make it beautiful! Even me!
I know that I have a lot of ugly area's in me, but through God, I am made beautiful!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Cor 5:17
Just for all of your information. My husband's jeans were clean! ...just not dry....

Snow Days

I know, I know, I am behind on my blogging again. I am blaming it on another snow day.

Thursday most of the schools in our area had another snow day. The kids this year are really hitting it big with all the snow days they are getting. Being a homeschooler, we normally don't follow the school schedule, but when the kids are off and wanting to play, it is sometimes nice to allow for a fun day for the kids. This Thursday was one of those days.

It started with our neighbor Matt coming over to play and then shortly after he came, another neighbor Lochlyn came over too. I was in such a good mood that day, that I let Micah have his friends over for lunch too. I know that the kids appreciated this day of play. Sometimes it's nice to let go and have some fun. Something us parents should learn to do more!

Shaving Cream??

Ahh, yes shaving cream. It has been a wonderful messy way to help teach Tyler his letters.

Tyler is a kinesthetic learner, he learns through physical activity. I can't hold a letter "A" infront of him and have him understand and remember that it's an "A". He needs to jump, stomp, or hit an "A". He also learns through making his letters with his hands. That is where shaving cream comes in.

Have you ever tried to play with shaving cream? It's cool, creamy, smooth, fluffy, and it makes a wonderful mess. But it's a really great way for Tyler to feel his letters, while he draws them in the shaving cream. It's also a great way for two brothers to have a lot of fun together which is more important than learning letters to me.
Blessings!
